Ah, what a treat! We were all well into Vision Fortune’s debut cassette a year or so back and now the hypno-punkers have got a full-length LP out, housed in one of the coolest sleeves I’ve seen in a while, with eight tracks each named with a Roman numeral. As a record it sucks you in with hypnotically repetitive dark post-punk reminiscent of the underappreciated Poison Arrows, before dumping you in a crumbling wasteland of analogue rumble and crackly drones.

Their rhythmic kraut-inspired repeato side then emerges on the flip with some weird slow drone-dirge grooves guaranteed to send you into a bonged-out trance with or without the drugs. Closer ‘XIII’ meanwhile has a cleaner guitar-led sound, with echoed guitar and bass notes over sleepy rumbling synth drones like Mugstar slowed down to an Earth-ish plod. The whole LP evolves with a crackling, slow-burning intensity, taking cues from krautrock, doom, dark ambience and industrial drone and turning it into an unhurried, trance-inducing triumph, occupying territory somewhere between Factory Floor and Hookworms. Highly recommended!
