2 reasons to be interested in this one, a) you like Galaxie 500 and all that came from it or b) the words 'shimmy disc' or 'Kramer' excite you more than is healthy. I sit in both camps so always loved this. Apparently this is another case of Kramer throwing his toys out of the pram because he hadn't got his own way, (my favourite story is how he wiped the master tape for paleface's raw/war LP, forcing a total rerecord, because he was being arsey about something that was said about the production). The story here goes that Damon and Naomi asked for some changes to be made to the sound on 'more sad hits', to be met with glacial stares. After much reasoned debate, changes were made. When they then asked to hear the original mixes, Kramer informed them they couldn't. No explanation, just no. Previous strong relationship soured.

Fast forward a few years and Kramer shows up at D & N's home with the master of the original mixes, including a track that never made the original more sad hits. Hence this release.

I nearly wet myself when I heard about it. That's how hard the shimmy disc obsession got me. Mostly because the original more sad hits was so Kramer heavy anyway. Legend has it Kramer wouldn't take no for an answer, basically locking them in the studio to record after Galaxie 500 split. So an even more shimmy version, to good to be true. And that is what you get. It isn't better, it's different. About 30% more shimmy! If that excites you, or the original LP was one you loved at the time, this won't disappoint. A Rare thing on an LP of this sort. Not better, not worse, but a genuine different perspective.
