- Wood Land by Joseph Minadeo & Curt Brown

I listened to this at home last night and it was so beautiful and lovely sounding it made me feel positively evil in comparison. The Infraction label’s release schedule is fairly relaxed these days so when a new release (or two - see the new Eluder album) arrives it’s always a fairly momentous occasion. What I particularly like about the label is they don’t just dredge up the samne artists we see week after week, rather the A&R dig that bit deeper to present works by artists that or often relatively unknown. Joseph Minadeo & Curt Brown are a case in point, however the more astute amongst you may well be aware that Curt is a member of post-rock outfit Low In The Sky.
‘Woodland’ consists of thirteen strong tracks, sometimes uplifting but more often heartbreaking. Intricate electronics accompany and complement layers of piano and some guitar, organ, synth and sparse drums which melt into one another seamlessly. Certainly as the label states there are echoes of Alva Noto & Ryuchi Sakamoto’s collaborations. I’ll refrain from picking any highlights as these album I feel really needs to be consumed in its entirety.
Comes in a very elegant digipak package with 28 page booklet of text and photographs which is housed in a cardboard slipcase, all with the distinctive infraction design aesthetic. Classy stuff indeed.
