More garagey action coming at you with a new single from September Girls (and I won’t spend half the review bleating on about the song of the similar name this time though this does present me with an opportunity to mention our Big Star 2LP record store day thingy, one of many items you can buy from us on the magical day). September Girls are five real girls from Dublin, Ireland (top of da mornin to ya!).
They play a brand of poppy, fuzzy lo-fidelity ‘60s influenced girl group pop with organs and everything! It’s mightily good, think Phil Spector, Shangri-Las, Vivian Girls, Jesus and Mary Chain, (early) Fuzzbox. The A side pounds along with subterranean guitars, early Bobby Gillespie floor tom and snare drums and muffled vocals. The B side is a less intense affair but will appeal to anyone who has never quite recovered from Tallulah Gosh splitting up. Now is your chance to relive those glory years but as I noted last time they look more like The Runaways than Amelia Fletcher’s teddy bears’ picnic famous five.
