8/10 Mike Staff review, 17 April 2013

Here’s another of those CDs from the reliable Wil-Ru imprint which come in DVD cases instead of CD cases, this time the fourth album from Dutch dub-ambient producer Arjen “Ohrwert” Schat, sculptor of delicately throbbing bliss-outs and indistinct dronescapes. This is seriously hazy stuff, starting out as simple celestial ambience before introducing subtle, submerged bass patterns and crystalline twinkles along with distant womb-like beats suggesting a kind of drifting subaquaticity which floods the senses in an all-enveloping calm.

There’s often quite a healing new age vibe but it’s always underpinned by a dub techno pulse, even if it’s almost imperceptible in places. I’m reminded of artists like bvdub and Coppice Halifax - it’s ambient dub techno with the emphasis heavily on the ambient side. Sleepy, immersive and gently uplifting.
