Saturday July 1st 1961. John Coltrane is playing at the Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island, along with McCoy Tyner on piano, Reggie Workman and Art Davis on bass, and Elvin Jones on drums. You should have been there, he was electric. Thankfully, with this recording it’s like you really were. On vinyl.

You can now experience even more of John Coltranes music with this new live recording. The album starts with an introduction before going into the first track "Impressions" which is a slice of John Coltrane at his best and really shows how tight his band were and how great they were on their instruments. Another highlight for me is the track "Naima" which is a very underrated John Coltrane track and is incredible. Overall a great release from the incredible mind blowing jazz genius that is John Coltrane.
