Just when you think you’ve got these guys sussed they drop this belter truly defying my expectations. ‘Misappropriation’ is a rugged as fuck clanking distorted industrial breakbeat banger that has traces of Miles Whittaker’s productions with Andy Stott as HATE. Then imagine that given a good dose of sinister eastern mysticism and a side order of Muslimgauze. It also recalls a rougher and more dynamic take on Regis’ ‘In A Syrian Tongue’. Really dig this tune a whole lot.
Then brace yourself for the flipside as ‘Collision’ is determined to tear you a new one. This more explicitly carries the aesthetics of the HATE productions with crumpled up jungleism’s sounding like an Enduser 12” pitched down. It has all the noisy, nasty breakcore sounds of days gone by, super dark, like a less raved up or aggressive Panacea to begin with but then gradually it lets rip and gets well intense. An unexpected but most welcome move from this Lancashire duo. Nice looking test pressing style artwork and the first in what’s looking to be an exciting series of releases. Recommended.
