We were all really charmed here in the office by Triptides’ debut album ‘Sun Pavilion’ - a hazy, summery mix of Real Estate-ish neo-AOR and surfy Californian pop with a timeless, instantly familiar feel to it. We liked it so much that we’ve picked up this and another of their earlier limited 7”s from the Croque Macadam label.
This one’s ace, on ‘Bright Sky’ the guitars have a lovely chiming jangle and with more dreamy vocals and insidious pop hooks, while on the B-side ‘Darling’ there’s “ooh-ooh” back-up harmonies with wibbly reverbed guitar and a tambourine for more of a Phil Spector feel. Sweet band, pick up these 7”s while they’re still available - this one’s a hand numbered edition of 200 so I can’t see them staying on our shelves for long!
