New on Memphis Industries, there are a tonne of records out there that sound like this - a mid-fi pop song somewhere between folk and electronica, it has a homespun feel leaving the track feeling curiously unfinished. What it does have is a catchy chorus, and main guy James Mathe has a voice that at times has the same timbre as Jose Gonzalez. There is a slight yacht-rock feel to the chorus - sounding like a demo for an ‘80s power ballad.
On the flip he covers Terence Trent D’arby’s ‘Wishing Well’ sounding not unlike someone in the ‘80s messing about after work with their casio keyboard. Obviously inspiration has waned already.
