Here’s something for you Kosmische/synth/kraut fans out there and we know there are a lot of you - mainly men but if any ladies dig this scene then let us know you exist. I was at a recent Barn Owl gig and counted four women in the crowd of about 60 - two of whom were in the support bands. It’s a man thing. This starts with a kinetic pulsing synth and features bits and bats of vocals before a sexy snaking sax comes into play. It’s a drifting affair that it’s easy to get lost in. Towards the end someone presses a button and it all goes squelchy. It sounds very mellow for the type of stuff Factory Floor normally get themselves messed up in.

On the flip we get New York no-wave avant pioneer Peter Gordon (Love of Life Orchestra et al) hanging out with Factory Floor’s Dominic Butler. I once walked past an open-curtained suburban house and witnessed a middle aged couple hard at work, one playing piano, the other sax. They looked to be having a whale of a time as do these two pioneers from different generations. On this, one of them is using a vocoder whilst some motorik drum machined beats plod along in the background. But then! As if coming from another record altogether a nice melodic bass appears, giving new substance to the whole thing. Sweet as a nut and I’m now thoroughly enjoying this. I’m giving them back the star that I took off earlier for the sax.
