Here’s a 12” single which is longer than most albums, featuring an “extended all night version” of Red Stars Over Tokyo’s ‘Crossing A Frozen Sea’ on one side, and a 20-plus minute remix by the German collective Magazine on the other. The original version is a chilly bit of ambience with distant rumbles, swelling Deathprod-esque melodic drift and clicky, echoing beatwork. It’s a silky and soothing passage of nocturnal darkness.
On the other side the silkiness continues, but this time the echoed click-beats are replaced by a metronomic techno throb, and I think I can hear distant, ghostly vocals (but those could be synths), and there’s a acidy Adamski-esque ‘90s house synth bass pumping away steadily to itself too, building to a shivering three-note melodic cycle which shivers away grimly to itself. It’s slick, dark and slightly industrial techno providing late night listening for the disaffected modern man (or lady).
