Second album from Singapore singer/songwriter Nicholas Chim is a forlorn collection of indie/folk love songs, from the opener ‘In The End’ you can tell he wears his heart on his sleeve. Initiated by a difficult end to a relationship, Chim pours out his heart through his lyrics but the music is surprisingly upbeat. Other acoustic folk artists like James Iha and Roddy Woomble spring to mind as this is no lo-fi affair, the self-production is clear and crisp with beautiful clean acoustic guitar and the addition of the occasional piano and saxophone.

‘Midnight’ has a little country vibe with a female backing vocal and ‘My Treasure My Pearl’ is a lovely sad piano led song that has a very mature sound to it. Chim’s vocals are very polished and have an almost American FM radio feel to them but this doesn’t spoil the overall feel to his music, there’s still a lot of soul and pain in his voice! Standout track for me is ‘I Want You Again’, a nice melodic pop ballad that was just made for some American teen movie end titles!
