Classic rock doesn’t come much more classic than an album that features Purple Haze, Hey Joe and The Wind Cries Mary. The Jimi Hendrix Experience (the band that featured none other that Jimi Hendrix on guitar and vocals) announced themselves to the world with their debut Are You Experienced in 1967 and blew the socks off everyone that heard it. It still has that effect, as you will find out when you buy it….

I think it's fair to say that without this album, guitar music as we know it just wouldn't be the same, because let's be honest, Hendrix was more than just a mind-blowing guitarist. He was a pretty good songwriter, especially when he was at his best (as he is right here on this album), and I enjoy hearing his resonant, charismatic voice, but it's when he lets his guitar do the talking when he really shines brightest. The majority of Are You Experienced is just good old acid rock, with tracks such as "Purple Haze," "Fire," and "Foxey Lady" containing guitar work unlike anything that had been heard before, with their lusting lyrics, pounding rhythms, and Hendrix's emphasis on THOSE riffs laid the foundations for what would become heavy metal. This isn't my favorite Hendrix album (That would go to Electric Ladyland), but it's right here where he showcases the best collection of songs that he made in his lifetime.
