Anthony Child is better known to the techno and electronic music community as Surgeon (Dynamic Tension, Counterbalance, Downwards, Tresor etc.). With just a few previousl releases under his real name this is the debut album under his real name and follows on nicely from Surgeon's 'Breaking The Frame' full length. 'The Space Between People And Things' is a line from Coil's 'The Dreamer Is still Asleep'. The Coil reference is also an indication of what to expect in terms of the sound as this has more in common with England's hidden reverse than the dancefloor.

Here Child explores dark ominous spaces which are more cerebral than environmental. Using huge shifting glacial drones, discreet tonal shifts, electroacoustic noise and field recordings there's more in common here with the music of Nurse With Wound, Eliane Radigue or Kevin Drumm than Monolake or Jeff Mills. Although it's isn't really techno it does explore the same themes as his Surgeon productions, the vibe of something unknown, things lurking inn the shadows, altered zones, science fiction etc. Although the first side is very reminiscent of Coil, the second side has a very distinctive creep Surgeon flavour. As with most of his productions the clarity of the sound is pristine. It's nice to have a full album (well two twenty minute tracks) of him working in this mode. Over the years his albums have always explored darker ambient moods so it's good to get a fully formed and realised document of that vision.
