Soul Jazz follow up their 'Can You Jack?' compilation from some years ago with this dual 2LP / 2CD set compiling some gems from the golden era of house music 1986-93. Chicago house / acid house in one of my real musical passions. To this day I still discover lost gems and obscurities that excite me. This collection bundles together a mixture of well known classics and some not as well known. Featuring cuts by Larry Heard, Phuture (DJ Pierre, Spanky), Armando, Marshall Jefferson, K-Alexi, Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk etc. it serves as a great introduction for any newcomers while seasoned collectors will also find much to enjoy on pristine 180g vinyl as many of these easy tracks were originally very badly pressed, plus I'm sure many of the original 12"s have seen some wear and tear. But DJ'ing aside the 2CD set is great to whack on in the car or whatever.

Worth mentioning is that it contains one of my all-time favourites; The Children - Freedom which is worth the asking price alone. To this day I adore these tracks in all their raw, deranged glory. By no means a difinitive overview of the scene but filed next to 'Can You Jack' Soul Jazz are definitly getting there in documenting what is in my view on of the most exciting developments in musical history. Acieeeed!!!
