Here’s the latest 7” from Julianna Barwick, coming out on Suicide Squeeze this time, with a couple of piano-oriented compositions this time round. On the first side ‘Pacing’ is all delicate tinkles and feather-light vocals layered and reverbed for a warm and dream-like listen with a strangely cyclic feel to it, like if it didn’t fade out it could continue indefinitely. It’s a thing of shimmering beauty.
Over on the other side is a solo piano piece, ‘Call’, which has a graceful, minimal beauty which brings to mind the likes of Hauschka and Nils Frahm, patiently paced and achingly sad, it’s as if it has been composed to soundtrack a particularly sad farewell scene; certainly does tug at those heartstrings.
