- Blade Runner by Vangelis
This is truly the greatest soundtrack ever created, the now legendary Vangelis-produced ‘Blade Runner’ OST has made a long awaited comeback to the world of vinyl and it is worth the wait. Interspersed with dialogue from the film itself which gives it an even more atmospheric quality, Greek composer/musician Vangelis pulled out all the stops here, after 1981’s ‘Chariots Of Fire’ which really cemented his name in Hollywood, the music on this soundtrack is perfect in its futuristic film noir ambience.
From the opening titles as we fly over a neon lit city to Rachel and Deckard’s sax soaked ‘Love Theme’ this is a beautiful and epic piece of music, after initial releases of the soundtrack being orchestral compositions by the New American Orchestra, fans were crying out for the superior Vangelis version and you can see why, featuring vocal contributions by Demis Roussos and said sax solo by Dick Morrissey and a production quality that would stand up by even today’s standards.
