As we are still months away from the end of winter, I’m increasingly turning to upbeat balearic-sounding anthems as a source of sunshine and serotonin. Three-piece Sunless 97 certainly up the energy levels with this blast of sunshiney fun. Lead track ‘Aurora1’ is so resolutely upbeat it makes Wham’s ‘Club Tropicana’ sound like Jacques Brel’s ‘My Death’. It features squiggly synths, bouncy rhythms, ear snagging female vocals.

The press release describes the feel as “the euphoric vibes of walking home after a night of dancing, feeling content, at peace and not ‘lonely’ even though you are walking home alone” which is exactly how I feel when skipping the vomit laden streets after a night in Flares nightspot. I only mock because I’m insanely jealous. The second track is a kind of rework of the main tune, reducing it to a marginally more somber state. On the flip we get mixes by F.E.A.R and Luke Solomon which are further mesmeric variations on the theme. And all this from ex-Larrikin Love? Well I never.
