This fella’s got releases out already on good labels like Preservation and Slow Flow which all went down well with our Ant but I’ve not come across his work before. Still, here’s his latest offering ‘Parallax View’ on my review pile so I guess now’s my time. When I first put the record on I was a little daunted by a harsh looped vinyl crackle that makes it sound like there’s something wrong with the record, but this soon melts into some cosmic synth ambience which is quite therapeutic at first but slowly descends into a jumble of uneasy backwards organ stabs and wavering drones in the nightmarish tropical fever dream of ‘The Bridge’ with a throbbing Nurse With Wound-esque concrete feel towards the end as it blends into the chiming, organic ambience of ‘Installation’.
Throughout the record this sense of narrative continues, with a real feel that each track is picking up where the previous one left off, despite quite a varied range of textures and moods over its course, from blurred and fractured little swells of synth and twitchy ambience to uneasy confusion and sweeping loveliness and arpeggiated kosmische and dark Decimus-esque post-industrial queasiness. It’s equal parts threatening and uplifting and even in its more difficult moments a pretty absorbing listen.
