Oh hey, two new Dope Body songs! The Baltimore quartet’s bombastic sophomore LP ‘Natural History’ was one of my favourite releases of last year so this new single is a nice treat on this sunny-yet-freezing day. ‘Leather Head’ eschews the in-your-face theatrics of the aforementioned album for something a bit more sinister. It’s got churning hypnotic riffs and vocals mixed low and more than a hint of Jesus Lizard influence. In fact if the bass was a little bit clankier and the vocals were a bit yowlier this’d be vintage Lizard. Super.

Flip it and ‘Youth Relic’ is more like the thinking man’s bro-rock which I’m used to from them, breakneck repetitive riffing and louche, lively vocals for a surging, summery jam that reminds me a bit of underrated Portland goofballs Tight Phantomz, but not as much as it reminds me of Dope Body. Another quality offering.
