Glass Reservoir have released this latest (Ltd. to 50!) EP by minimalist composer Benjamin Shaw, Summer In The Box Room is a wonderful collection of dark ambience that at first is pretty hard to pin down but after a few tracks reminds me of the more recent offerings from David Sylvian like ‘Manafon’ or ‘Died In The Wool’, a splendid mix of discordant electronica and broken acoustics that both soothes and unnerves at the same time, the occasional found sound creeps in when you least expect it like on ‘Oh Jesus, Shut The Blinds’ which includes a warped conversation about plimsolls(?).

‘All Meithered, Me’ has a lovely guitar refrain over a whispered vocal that sounds rather like Labradford and this theme seems to carry on into the final track ‘Milk’, this is probably the nicest thing I’ve heard this week actually and the packaging is pretty special too with the CD housed in a neat little fold away envelope with a hand painted/hand numbered cover!
