Next up on this Famous Class split series is Deerhoof and Half Waif. One band I’m very familiar with and one I’ve never heard of. Anyway, the Deerhoof track on here is gold - pummelling, blown-out drumbeats, bass distorted to into a Flaming Lipsy chunk of thick low end buzz, countered by sugar-sweet vocals and completely addictive vocal hooks. Apparently it was recorded as part of the video series ‘Masters From Their Day’. If you’re into their last couple of albums you need this song, it’s one of their best! Total widescreen summer vibes,

On the other side is a band called Half Waif who I’ve never encountered before. They play a laid back piano-led pop with plenty of warbling and some nice double bass. It’s swirling, atmospheric stuff which reminds me of Dark Dark Dark with a touch of early Tori and Ella Guru. It’s very nice but totally different from the Deerhoof side - it seems like less of a tailor-made pairing than the others in this series. That said if you like Deerhoof I can’t stress enough that this is worth getting for their offering alone.
