Shit it's been like five years or something since these guys unleashed the beast that was and is 'Certainty Of Swarms'. They've been keeping themselves busy in the meantime though with Robert Beatty's unique gloopy artwork adorning many a record sleeve and a recent LP from his Three Legged Race handle. Then Mike Connelly's Failing Lights project really got off the ground and I started to wonder if these guys would ever get together and make a proper album again.
Well prayers have been answered and this one don't disappoint, for it's as dark as one could have hoped for. I think it's safe to say that their solo outings have given them space to fine tune their individual styles so when they come back to the group things seem a little more focussed perhaps. It's a creepy record with lots of nightmarish clanking, spooked chimes, eerie crashes, gloomy soundscapes, ugly scrapes, wailing feedback, hallucinatory evil voices. You get the picture. Good to hear these guys still doing their thing in this style while keeping the synth stuff and techno sounds reserved for other projects.
If you were into these guys and Wolf Eyes in there prime and are a little tired of all the underground US noisemakers wandering off into techno then this will do the job nicely. Ahhhhh good old fashioned raw and disturbing "noise".
