An Aussie living in New York, Craig Dermody has adopted a moniker sure to always remind him of home and bashes out a brand of lo-fi indie pop which straddles the Big Apple and the Antipodes, with shambling grooves and shameless pop hooks which come across like a midpoint between The Clean and The Babies, all high gain jangle and snotty, loose vocals.

Thankfully this guy’s good at it, loads of unabashed ‘60s garage style melodies which bring to mind The Milkshakes, and an earnest, casual melodicism that reminds me of boy/girl indie slackers Giving Up and fellow adopted New Yorkers Parquet Courts, and I just had a moment of clarity and realised just what a massive debt he owes to The Fall’s earlier efforts too. What this essentially means is that I think every single song on this 10” is great and incidentally so was his last album, so if you’re unfamiliar with this fella then get involved! It was recorded by Jarvis Taveniere at Rear House too, so you know it’s gonna sound good.

So much better than his already quite enjoyable album, this record sleeve is a wonder to behold, even before you get stuck into the 5 tracks of perfect indie slacker pop.
