I’ve not heard of these guys before but knowing the quality of releases on MIE (Bong, Pelt, Sarin Smoke, Gate, Richard Youngs, etc) you know it’s gonna be interesting! Actually I thought it was a chap but it is in fact a Japanese/Norwegian quintet. It comes celebrity endorsed as well with artwork by Rutger Machinefabriek Hauer and there’s extensive bordering on pretentious liner notes from David Sylvian otherwise known as David Sylvian.

This is free improvised music. You have to be in the mood to listen to things like this ‘cause if you’re not then it’ll probably just seem annoying. I find this with all improv music. But if you are in the mood you can be taken on some of the wildest journeys music has to offer. Trumpet, sax, tuba, stringed things like guitars all create a world encased in feedback and strange noises. It’s bonkers sounding stuff with brass instruments screeching and skweeing instead of their usual hollers. It’s an intense racket for sure and occasionally the odd semblance of melody will poke through the ambience. Expect to hear more from these guys over the coming months anyway as I can see them doing the biz in all the improv scene!
