Nice! I’d not heard this lot before but the sun just came out and Leeds is experiencing its first meaningful warmth in about six months and this is just the kind of adrenalised riff-a-thon we need to celebrate that. It sounds just like you’d want a band called Bad Guys to sound like, neanderthal riffs, heavy drums, and a snotty vocal delivery that fits into the middle ground between Pissed Jeans and Suicidal Tendencies. ‘Bore’ is even reminding me a little bit of Wrangler Brutes with its tumbling weird-punk guitars and babbling vocal rant.
It’s not just pure punk rock’n’roll energy, though, there’s a kind of laid back, muscular grooviness about it which drags it into the realm of bands like Dope Body or even Snot (for those with long memories) rather than erring too far into the technicolour kiddie-core of bands like The Bronx or The Plight, and it definitely seems like they’ve been listening to plenty of stoner rock from the ‘90s like The Heads and Fu Manchu and Monster Magnet. They’re certainly not ashamed of their cheeseball element, though - ‘Witness A New Low’ sounds like Billy Idol crossed with Danzig, pretty silly! This is great, though, chunky and punky stoner rock for people with short attention spans. It’s turning into an expensive week for me.
