8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 22nd July 2015

"Dresses Too Short" by Sly Johnson was released in 1968. He claims to be the most sampled artist of all time. "Different Strokes" certainly rings bells with its James Brown-meets-Marvin Gaye style soul-funk. The likes of Public Enemy and Wu-Tang Clan have sampled the song. This is accomplished soul music and it's a bit of mystery why it was not as popular as Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Al Green or William Bell as, artistically he's right up there. "Come On Sock It To Me" was his first hit, although his hits were nowhere near as big as the aforementioned artists, it's a great song with a great guitar intro. The best cut on here though is "Same Kind Of Thing" which is a supreme slice of soul-pop with it's endlessly singable chorus.
