White Mountain is a minimal mix of pastoral ambience that would interest fans of the ‘Riceboy Sleeps’ project of Sigur Ros’s Jonsi and Alex Somers, particularly as this is mixed by Alex himself. ‘So Very Strange’ has washes of acoustic guitar and cello with a floating vocal like fellow Icelanders Mum, ‘Black Shore’ though is more of a glitch electronica sound with a lovely vibraphone that reminds me of Telefon Tel Aviv!

Like a lot of other stuff like this out there at the moment the emphasis is on the glacial ambience but ‘White Mountain’ has a lot more going on than the usual snooze fest, lots of real instruments like flute, viola, clarinet and vibes intertwine with flourishes of electronica, the title track is surprisingly tuneful with twinkling percussion over a breathing clarinet and then final track ‘Molasses’ closes the album nicely with a Mountains-like drone!
