Well this track and the subsequent blogosphere queries as regards to what it actually is have apparently been driving Hebden mad, so mad he’s put all the info he can muster into the title. The mad fucker. This review is deliberately short as there’s not much to this track apart from a rustic clip-clop beat and some joyously intense African chanting and cheering that gets gradually subsumed by a steady 4/4 house beat and some funky hi-hat action.
Hmm...I’d say it’s a reasonably well spliced hybrid of the organic and propulsive and certainly an enjoyable experience but mainly due to the singing and carrying on which is infused with a huge amount of spirit and joie de vivre. Bet it works well in a club, not so sure sat here on a drizzly Thursday night in a brightly-lit office. Not a patch as good as the ‘Ne Noya’ re-fit by Daphni but then again, I just don’t know if this track was ever intended as a release. It feels more like a DJ tool designed to create a certain atmosphere? I think he really has been badgered out of his mind about it hence TEXT022, a single-sided piece to scrap over on Discogs three months down the line. If you don’t get stuck in now perhaps?
