Alan Myson follows up his ‘Nebula Dance’ full length for Planet Mu with a 6 track EP for Civil Music which kicks off with the title track. ‘Hyper Real’ is all fast footwork tempo rim-shots with all those lush classic IDM emotive melodies he does so well. It’s somewhere between classic electronica and more contemporary bass music.

‘Re Entry’ again has that Chi-town thing happening in the percussion with dreamy synth work, not unlike label mate Kuedo’s recent output in many ways although this is probably a bit more energetic with a big gritty ripper of a bassline. The theme continues on ‘The Flood’; a darker electro-stepper with itchy frantic beats. ‘Froze Up’ continues the momentum with intricate percussion, big claps and pretty, sparkling chimes.

Despite its energy theres a very melancholic feel at play. ‘The Flood (Throwing Snow Remix)’ drops the tempos a tad with big chugging arpeggiated synths while the Deft Remix of ‘Hyper Real’ closes proceedings in bombastic fashion displaying this chaps talent for fusing post-dubstep / IDM into floor friendly yet cerebral shapes. Ital Tek fans surely will not be disappointed.
