Jake Blanchard is a visual artist who’s been designing all things to do with music and the odd skate park for a while now. If you’re not familiar with his styles then you fucking should be as this man can draw! I think he can paint too. Seriously though, check out some his artwork cos it’s awesome. So as well as being arty and running the Tor Press label he’s found the time to release some music on the Feathered Coyote label.
It’s a cassette limited to 100 copies. Musically it’s an intense ritualistic beast erring on the drone/sound art side of things. The opener is a looping cyclical number which for some reason is reminding me of the device they build in Contact (film with Jodie Foster ruined at the end by her seeing her dad in space). This looping caterwaul is the perfect sound effect for that machine spinning around. Mind you the track does build up to some proper wild noise stylings which wouldn’t be as improvised. Later in this dark cinematic industrial style soundtrack comes the clanking of things and machine-like hums creating a unique and eerie soundscape to get lost in. It’s well worth checking out and of course there’s Jake’s awesome artwork and a download code for those with the need.
