So I’m sat here at home with a large cup of sweets (yes a cup), cos I’m essentially a huge disturbed looking child and it feels good. Soundtracking my sugary fun is the new JK Flesh/Prurient record that has just arrived courtesy of those folks at Hydra Head. I reckon anyone involved in this project would be shocked by a grown man chewing at a candy necklace whilst reviewing this.

Anyhoo JK Flesh (aka Justin Broadrick) stumps up some hard hitting techno infused bass music with some harsh industrial techno beats. I’ve no idea what the tracks are called but tits out the second track on the EP had me talking out loud saying ‘fuck this is good’. It’s a heavy dark banging tune and the aforementioned beats are complemented by some deep low bass which will make you motion. Scorn meets Shackleton meets some weird industrial shit. Nice tracks!

Onto the gloved one now. Prurient has changed over the years from his earlier ear shredding power electronics to more recent subtle dark electronic ambient pieces. Whatever styles of Prurient you’re listening to you know they’re gonna be intense and the opener with its sustained electronic tones which build into huge fuzzy intense fists of music punching your ears into cauliflower submission is impressive. As is the last track which is a melodic number with a sort of distorted haunted sounding piano that ends up sounding like The Caretaker being forced through a shredder teeth first. This is a very compelling EP that works as an excellent companion to a candy necklace. 5sies.
