- Hello by Mozart's Sister

Here’s a debut 12” EP of synthpop from Montreal’s Mozart’s Sister, who leads with a track called ‘Mozart’s Sister’ where she croons about feeling like Mozart’s Sister to a backing of crisp, cool synthpop with a slightly airy, twitchy feel, bringing to mind Grimes, Diamond Rings and Niki & The Dove, with a stomach-turningly irritating “goo-goo-ga-goo” refrain at the end marring what’s otherwise a pretty decent track.
Then on ‘Don’t Leave It To Me’ she channels her inner soul diva to a Knife-esque Euro-electro-style backing. Flip it and the woozy ‘Contentedness’ is a bit of slinky Afghan Whigs sex-soul dressed in synthpop syrup and ‘Kool Thing’-esque casual chatting, maybe getting a bit of early Bat For Lashes from this one towards the end too, it’s like two songs in one. Definitely my favourite cut here. To close there’s ‘Single Status’, which is a nice bit of synthpop again reminding me of Niki & The Dove and also the first Passion Pit EP, although it seems a little insubstantial after the epic track which preceded it.
