Welcome to a new regular feature. Clint’s Friday morning techno corner. We have at least two techno experts amongst our resident reviewers, sadly neither of whom are regularly available this morning (or any Friday mornings in fact) so you are lumped with me. My favorite of this morning’s barrage of techno-related releases is this one by Conforce.
Now, according to my notes, Conforce is the nom de plume of Boris Bunnik, and had a double album out in 2011. This is his first release since and opening track ‘Nomad‘ belts along with some glassy beats underneath a bit of industrial clank and some warm synth notes. It has a lovely languid feel, its eerie but soothing atmospheres bringing to mind the twinkling lights of late night industrial estates. Harder but no less enjoyable is ‘Receiver’ which utilises low end dubby bass and echoey drum patterns.
On the flip we have a buzzy, droney piece before ending with a soft wind tunnel effect with some low end beats and tinkling percussion. The lead track is certainly the finest offering here, thumpy enough for the dancefloor but with some wonderful atmospherics for late night drives or home listening.
