7/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 22nd February 2015
Tom Morgan is a songwriter of some pedigree. His band, Smudge, have countless great indie-pop songs, he has had many of his songs covered by The Lemonheads, and also co-written some with Evan Dando. His most famous song is probably "The Outdoor Type" which has been covered by several acts. His voice has never been his strongest weapon which is probably why many of his songs achieved greater success when they were left to Evan Dando's doe-eyed croon. "Orange Syringe" is Tom Morgan's first solo album and it's pretty good I think. The ballad, "Best Things For Baby" the single, "Taste For Blood" and "I'll Provide The Wine" are the most immediate tracks to get your teeth into. I feel bad for saying that this would sound significantly better if Evan Dando was singing the songs as I'm a big fan of Tom Morgan (He even loaned his guitar to Lou Barlow at the Reading Festival where Lou went a bit bonkers and smashed his up), but it's probably true.
