5/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 27th October 2014
Upon hearing “Faithful Heights”, the a capella opener to “Country Sleep” by Night Beds, AKA Winston Yellen, it reminded me of the faux emotion shown by Conor Oberst in the spoken passage at the start of the Bright Eyes album “I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning” (I do quite like a lot of that album, though). Maybe I’m a just being a little over-cynical but I feel that it comes across as trying too hard and Yellen should stick to writing great songs like “Ramona”. Perhaps after hearing “Ramona” prior to hearing the album I was expecting something different. I’m fairly sure that the majority who hear this album will think it’s amazing but it’s not really for me. Just reiterate, “Ramona” is great, though.
