This is the first release on the label formed by former (it says here) Kaiser Chief Nick Hodgson. I wonder if he stomped out in disgust after their Olympic travesty? Hang on, he’s the drummer, didn’t he write many of the songs? Frontman Matthew Hitt (he writes the Hitts) relocated from the mean streets of the Rhonda Valley to the slightly more quaint New York last year and has since formed this band who, apparently, provoked at twitter storm after a gig supporting The Vaccines. I hate the modern world.

Anyway, all of this leads to their debut single which is a jaunty piece of pop that does indeed owe something to a builders brew Smiths. There is a nice Marr-like jangle to the guitars and a Morrissey quiver to the voice but it’s much more ‘straight’, indeed more towards The Vaccines’ straightforward meat and two veg guitar pop.

Lead track ‘Long Hair’ lacks the killer hook to make it into something memorable. ‘You’ve Got It All Wrong’ shows they have a nice way with a chord change and nicely there is a third song that breezes along in a vaguely Strokes-like manner. Get it in the tape player of your Vauxhall Cavalier, drive to the top of a hill somewhere and while away the late afternoon in a longing embrace.
