This 12” on Testtoon Records unearths a classic cut by early ‘80s techno pioneers Shoc Corridor, which is then given the remix treatment by Mordant Music, Bepotel and Oubys. The original cut still sounds super fresh, with minimal electronic bass drum kicks and weird filtered-to-oblivion funk guitar over some relentlessly surging modular bleeps for a track that’s tense and propulsive but also danceable.
Then Mordant Music turns it into a dark bit of rumbling, pulsating ambient techno with a crisp, complex beat and some shuddering, crunchy tones, while over on the flip Bepotel throws down a fairly upbeat bass loop with a housey but playfully mechanical, slightly Fourtet-esque beat and some smooth synth swells, a real crowd pleaser. Finally to finish up Oubys is mixing up muffled beats and bright synth squiggles over some slow building pulses and drones, for a spooky but kinetic jam. The original is great and all the remixers have really done a decent job to provide a dud-free platter. Good techno!
