8/10 Clinton Staff review, 01 March 2013

Absolutely stunningly packaged new album from the psych/freak/folk twosome. Beautiful silk screened sleeve, downloadable coupon thingy and...AND...a ridiculously limited edition CD including a whole extra album! They seem to have veered slightly over into laid back, outrageously stoned Laurel Canyon folk since last I listened.

On the opening side ‘Turbine’ and ‘Trailer Trash’ both have organic acoustic strumming straight out of the Neil Young songbook to which freaky solos and eerie reverbed vocals are added. It creates a mood of a sunlit band rehearsal in a smoky room, the songs slowly staggering to a start as the musicians get their shit together...and there are a slew of long-hairs contributing to the album playing all manner of patchouli-scented instrument paraphernalia. It verges on falling apart, ‘Jacked Up’ just staying afloat due to a sweet female vocal.

The album changes tack completely on the flip, with ‘Poor Boy Excursions’ which throws up  some dusty old country blues shapes before some stoner jams and some really freeform playing. It winds up in an eastern side street courtesy of contributions from Mick Flower and Andy Ramsay. The bonus disc is CD assembled from live recordings made during the duo’s January 2012 month-long residency at Brooklyn’s Zebulon.
