Like a lot of Australian bands of the post-punk era, Crime & The City Solution had to travel to Europe to get noticed. They were formed by singer Simon Bonney right in the middle of the punk scene and could be filed alongside the Birthday Party and the Bad Seeds for sheer cinematic abrasiveness. American Twilight was their 2011 'comeback' record which featured members of the Dirty Three and 16 Horsepower backing up Bonner and friends.

The reformation of Crime and the City Solution by original members Simon Bonney (as in former Bad Seed) and Bronwyn is a stunning work of dramatic post-industrial narrative. The album invites comparison to early Bad Seeds, as it should. As a founding member of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bonney’s influence on their early sound is evident. Furthermore, Bonney shares the Bad Seeds iconography: stormy weather, fetishistic descriptions of the female form, religion, narrative forms, swirling strings, etc.
