9/10 Brian Staff review, 25 January 2013

I didn't like this album particularly at first, I thought it was a bit "whatevers" in fact. Then me got um 'Noctuary' on me massif stereo at home innit and started to soak up all the balmy tantric waves of cosmic dusty bliss emanating from um speakers and that.

The singing on 'Wonder' and the finale 'It's Dawning' is a bit stoned...I mean removed, like "crooning-dreamily-into-a-kitchen-roll-tube-at-a-stuffed-badger-nailed-to-the-wall" weird at times but hot damn lady cakes, if The Holydrug Couple from Chile ain't just tapped into something casually beautiful I'll eat my Dead Skeletons socks. For the vibe is often as if the BJM and Woods met in some erm...woods and got all naturist and drugged up then made a pure album of gentle shimmering psychedelic bliss-rock together on a beach till sunrise and beyond.

There's stacks of adorable, simple yet eternal-sounding riffs and glistening space-rock touches to soak up throughout the duration of this baby, like, usually I'd baulk at the idea of hearing yet another tripped-out approximation of S3 and der Floyd but the tune 'Out of Sight' is so darned gorgeous and mind-unravellingly pure that I'm helplessly smitten. Each piece carries only the weight of pure quality and exudes a certain tender warmth and eccentricity that many bands fail to produce.

Check the dream-quirk instrumental 'Willoweed', swiftly followed by the sensual, laconic Eggs/Uncle Wiggly-style melt of 'Paisley'. Another seriously fried but huggable ear-caresser/gentle impending headfuck. See, these guys keep it interesting within a genre you suppose has been done to death of late. They really put their individual spin on proceedings!

It's all home produced by this independently-minded duo from Santiago, officially the coolest place name on Earth. I decided this when I was 15. Nothing more to report here, 'Noctuary' modestly offers up some truly great organic dream-psych-rock from the Sunnier climes. Just the ticket this shitty European Winter.
