8/10 Clinton Staff review, 11 January 2013
It says ‘featuring Jim Shepherd’ all over it but I didn’t know who Jim Shepherd was. Turns out he was the lead singer in the Jasmine Minks. It also features a host of other luminaries from the era, the one from The Weather Prophets, a feller from The June Brides.
The music is exactly what you might expect, tough, gritty indie pop. Starts with a bit of surf guitar which pricked Mike’s ears up but it churns into the type of teak indie pop that was popular back in the day, more soulful than fey with guitars stinging rather than jangling. The B side rocks even harder, I’m kind of reminded of The Smithereens or The Godfathers. A good little 7” of the more forgotten end ‘classic’ guitar pop.
