- An Index Of Failure by Jasper TX

Wow, this record’s got a striking-looking sleeve of a grey and stormy sea, and it comes on very cool-looking silver vinyl too. It’s the new album from Dag Rosenqvist, aka Jasper TX, and collects five tracks recorded between 2006-11 which for one reason or other never saw the light of day. It’s not odds and sods exactly, but songs he still thinks are worthwhile which were intended for compilations and splits that never materialised.
Very lovely they are too. Drawn out pastoral ambience, static hiss, processed guitar, sleepy synths, swirling wind, and a good instinct for slow-drifting melodies and chord sequences which tug subtly at the heartstrings. I’m particularly enjoying ‘Rivers Flow’, full of sad, steady piano chords and emotional melodic swells, but the whole album is a calming, blurred and absorbing bit of introspective ambient drift. Sadly the coloured vinyl is a bit crackly, which is slightly annoying in a couple of the quiet bits but once he gets going it’s barely noticeable. It looks lovely, though, and the music is very good.
