8/10 Ian Staff review, 31 January 2013
London based label No Pain In Pop has released its second compilation of dark underground late night club tunes, artists and DJ’s from the four corners of the globe are featured here. We start with Finnish artist Ukkonen and It sets the mood for the rest of the album nicely, conjuring up images of the sticky dancefloors and sweating walls of a lost backstreet dungeon of a nightclub in Soho, this set is something that could fit easily in a club setting or even better back home post-club, ears still ringing but needing something to sooth the mind.
I flip over to the B-side and we’re treated to a very nice chilled ditty from Karen Gwyer interestingly titled ‘Tehe! Blah Blah! Shhhh!’ which harks back to early R&S/Apollo Records stuff like Model 500 or CJ Bolland, ‘Bantha Fodder’ by Ornine has a quite an unnerving horn sound on it but I like it just because of the Star Wars reference and we finish with a dark ambient piece by Forest Swords affiliated Dyymond Of Durham, all in all a great little collection to help wind down before the punishing comedown!
