- Léonore by Emmanuel Holterbach

According to the press release this 7” sees Emmanuel Holterbach, best known for his field recordings and work on the Eliane Radigue archives, “reinterpreting a classical opera in three short but intense pieces”. That’s all the information I have so I’m not sure which opera or what he’s done with it, but on this record we’ve got all sorts of evocative orchestral swells and flourishes which drift along mostly concordantly, sometimes blurred and layered and indistinct, elsewhere clearer and more detailed.
I’m assuming there’s some kind of sampling and tape-looping going on but information about this release is scant. The first track of the second side confusingly ends in a locked groove despite there being another number after it, but overall this is a curious little chunk of sampledelica/hauntologicalia with some lovely familiar sounds stretched into unusual shapes. Very nice gold and blue sleeves too.
