9/10 Mike Staff review, 17 January 2013

This guy doesn’t stop, does he? Here’s the latest offering from the hectic Ty Segall release schedule (in fact his ‘Reverse Shark Attack’ LP with Mikal Cronin also got reissued this week) and it’s another stonking cut from his recent LP ‘Twins’. I swear this one sounds gnarlier than the version on the album but I don’t know if that’s just my imagination or if it’s an actual alternate take. Either way that mix of saturated guitar fuzz and unrestrained melodies remains delicious.

On the flip there’s ‘For Those Who Weep’, which is a weary late Beatles/Kinks-esque little pastoral psych-pop gem with strummy acoustic guitars and dreamy vocal harmonies. It sounds like a pretty little sign-off track for the end of an album, especially when he starts whistling near the end. Totally charming. Hard to believe it’s a B-side to be honest. We’re not worthy.
