- The Island Come True by L. Pierre

Former Arab Strap Aidan Moffat’s Lucky Pierre/L. Pierre sideline has established itself as one of the most interesting strings to the Scotsman’s impressive bow, and seems like his outlet for his non-vocal sonic explorations, giving a whole new perspective on the inner workings of one of the country’s best-loved grumps through his expressive tapestries of neoclassical ambience and tasteful electronics.
He takes things down a notch on this latest opus, discarding the electronic elements to concentrate on building an album entirely from fragments of classical works, drum samples, instructional speeches and recordings of nature. This new approach gives it a nostalgic lilt to it, with plenty of snippets of crackle and hiss poking through the delicate melodic cycles to give it a sampledelic feel which falls somewhere between Ela Orleans (but less song-based) and The Caretaker (but less decayed) and is tastefully judged and carefully paced. Really nice stuff here from Moffat and his most ambient collection to date.
