We’ve got this limited hand-numbered 7” here in a stitched sleeve from the good people at Paradise Bangkok, and the A side Pai Na Pai is a quality Thai funk rock track, apparently a cover of a ‘70s classic but sadly to call my knowledge of Thai funk rock patchy would be generous so I’m not going to regale you with the track’s history. It’s a really cool cut, though, with a lazy mid-paced groove, a two-note bassline like in the start of ‘Take Me Out’ by Franz Ferdinand and some restrained high gain guitar. It’ll most likely make you dance.

The song on the other side is quite different, a ‘60s Molam with clattery shuffly percussion that reminds me a little of Moondog alongside hypno-drones from a phin (three stringed lute) and khaen (bamboo mouth organ). Basically there’s some great quality Thai exotica on here for people who are looking for something a bit different.
