This one is interesting. I didn’t know anything about these guys before today except that they play noise rock, so I was expecting some kind of formulaic pig-fucker screech-out but actually what this duo are doing is weirder and more interesting than that, taking minimal rhythms and structures and delivering them with a manic, violent fury. The clanking, grinding sparseness, especially when they use drum machines, is immediately bringing to mind Big Black crossed with Suicide.

Actually the press release throws around loads of pretty appropriate comparisons so I’m just going to copy the list from there now: “Sam McPheeters meeting KILLDOZER after a WOLF EYES concert. Or BLACK FLAG meets MERZBOW. CHROME meets FLIPPER. BLACK HUMOR meets the RESIDENTS. CRAMPS meet SHORTY. DAN MELCHIOR meets SAVAGE REPUBLIC. URINALS meet THROBBING GRISTLE. ABNER JAY meets ARAB ON RADAR”.

I could elaborate further by saying things like the REATARDS meets TOM WAITS, PIL meets MOUNT SHASTA, etc, but you’ve probably figured out what this record sounds like. It’s very good, and full of familiar sounds assembled in unfamiliar ways. Here in the 21st century it’s not often a noise rock band turns up with a load of fresh and listenable ideas like this lot.
