8/10 Clinton Staff review, 21 December 2012
I’m generally happy with anything that makes my life easier. A chair for example. This morning I was moving stock around the stock room, on my feet the whole time. After two hours I could think of nothing other than a nice sit down. Having found a chair, the sit down was just immense! I could highly recommend it. 5 stars!
This disc of experimental flamenco guitar and electronics does exactly what is says on the tin. It’s basically an album of manipulated and treated flamenco guitar. Presumably the guitarist has gone in, played a few licks and the other chap has faffed about with it, using all kinds of echoes and cut up techniques. The result is not necessarily soothing, sometimes there are really sharp shards of guitar and sometimes it’s very discordant, there is little melody as such so don’t go expecting Fennesz-style atmospherics. Instead you get weird little guitar pieces which after a while become strangely hypnotic as the previous piece drifts away under a shitload of echo and a new piece is played over the top. There is something very original and unusual about the album, creating a whole new slant on electro/acoustic deconstructed music.
